Dochula Pass: This mountain pass is located en route to Punakha from Thimphu and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayas, including snow-capped peaks on clear days. The pass is known for its 108 chortens (stupas) and a temple called the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang.
Chimi Lhakhang: This temple, also known as the "Temple of Fertility," is dedicated to the Divine Madman, Drukpa Kunley. The temple is a short walk from the main road and is known for its phallus symbols that are believed to bring blessings and fertility.
Punakha Dzong: One of the most iconic attractions in Punakha, the Punakha Dzong is a majestic fortress-monastery located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. It is known for its stunning architecture, intricate woodwork, and historical significance. Make sure to check if the dzong is open for visitors as it can sometimes be closed for official functions.
Suspension Bridge: There is a long suspension bridge near the Punakha Dzong that offers a unique experience of crossing the river on foot. The bridge provides lovely views of the river and the dzong.
