Now that we are nearing the middle of August and school is ready to start, I find myself in a frenzy of activity.
I have two lists:
1. All the things I have to do before the kids go back to school.
2: All the things I am going to get done once the kids go back to school.
They are equally long.
One of the top is reclaiming the house and even I have a list of framing I would like to do but I am finding myself trying to simplify more than embellish. So I am in the middle of the BIG sort, keep, trash, give up and sell. No fancy anagrams for me but I am struggling over the melon baller I had to have for some event 14 years ago that has never seen the light of day since, can I really part with it or do I need to have the girls over for watermelon to justify its existence in my home?
I am sure I will have a list of household oddities to share or part with for good. Right now I find myself loving the artwork that takes me to a calmer place or makes me laugh, the family photos telling me how quickly time is passing and a cozy place on the couch to watch a movie or read a book.
Is this really August?

Meet Me in Minburn
Now that the waters are receding and the clean up has begun, everyone may need a break and Minburn is a great place to go.
The "Meet Me in Minburn" Event Series continues this weekend with the Mike and Amy Finders Band. If you haven't seen them now is the time since they will be moving to Colorado at the end of the summer. This outstanding bluegrass band will surely impress you with their music.
The United Methodist Church will have dinner in the park and ice cream from 5-7 pm and the concert begins at 6:30 pm.
Also, Minburn's City Wide Garage Sale is this this Saturday as well.
Destination 33 has had a commorative poster created by the historic HATCH SHOW Print Company out of Nashville, TN. The posters will be available to purchase at the show for $10.00 each or $15.00 for two.

Destination 33 is Dry... but you'll need a boat.
The Floods of 2008 have not left out Destination 33.
We are nice and dry with our home and studio on the hillside but the North Raccoon has made its way over Lexington Road and we are no longer able to get to our home from Minburn Road. We have to take the scenic route and if we get much more rain we will need a boat from either direction.
As the river rose, the animals that lived in our woods and prairie fled for higher ground. We have an abundance of frogs, snakes, turtles and other wildlife taking refuge on the hill with us right now. The most amazing evacuation has been the earthworms. They are coming to the waters edge in mass and work to cross the road as quickly as possible before they are eaten, smashed, or so covered in gravel dust they can move forward.
Stay dry and lets hope for sunnier days.

Summer 2008
Now that the kids are out of school, vacations and festivals come to mind. If you are out at the festivals this year, support the artists by purchasing original art for your home or for gifts.
There are plenty of this happening even in Minburn as well. Check out www.Minburn.org to find out all the things happening in the Minburn area.
Have a great summer.
